ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
The Cal State Monterey Bay MBA is an innovative program that features two unique tracks to suit experienced executives and aspiring managers. To stimulate class discussion and maximize learning opportunities, our MBA candidates are placed in a cohort of students of similar experience level. A class of aspiring managers is likely to have different questions and experiences than a class of seasoned executives.
Based on your level of experience, we encourage you to apply either for the Traditional MBA or the MBA Executive Track. For the former, one year of professional experience is required. For the Executive Track program, we require a minimum of seven years experience with three in a management/leadership capacity.
Candidates considered for admission to the MBA program will be evaluated on the basis of their academic qualifications (GPA), personal statement, application, resume, and a letter of reference.
MBA:
- Application form
- GPA > 2.5
- Personal statement including work experience
- If GPA < 2.5, a score of 500 or higher on the GMAT is required to be considered for the graduate programs.
At CSU- Monterey Bay, we believe that entrance exam scores do not necessarily reflect an individual's ability to excel in this program. We also look for experience and motivation in our students. That is why the GMAT, often an admissions requirement for traditional MBA programs, is not a requirement for our online program unless an applicant's cumulative undergraduate grade point average is below 2.5.
Decision Making
The Admissions Committee will holistically consider the following information in evaluating your application:
- Completed California State University Monterey Bay application
- Résumé, describing your professional work experience
- One official copy of transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended
- Completed bachelor's degree with a 2.5 GPA in the last 60 credits attempted.
If your undergraduate GPA is 2.5 to 2.99, you will be required to submit a statement of purpose detailing your objectives and qualifications and a letter of recommendation from an individual (e.g., instructor, employer) familiar with your professional and/or academic work.
If your undergraduate GPA is below 2.5, you will also be required to submit GMAT score along with your application.
